Castion Music
1630’s Role: Administration
Theodora 'Teddi' Castion Taylor was born and raised in the NYC boroughs of the Bronx and Harlem. She was a song writer and the wife of American bop/hard bop pianist, educator and band leader – Billy Taylor.
Billy and Teddi married in 1948. Upon returning from their brief honeymoon, the young couple began touring together with Don Redman’s jazz band. Although she was the only woman on the tour, she held her own. Her sense of style distinguished her and an unerring confidence enabled her to stand tall in every room. During her first year of marriage, she would go on to visit eight countries.
Teddie co-wrote many songs with her husband Billy Taylor, and further wrote songs recorded by the Billy Taylor Septet, Woody Herman, Jorge Morel, Tyree Glenn, Coleman Hawkins, Al Caiola Orchestra, and Oscar Peterson.
